Victorian Window Treatment

Victorian window treatment is just one of the things that make up the Victorian style of decorating. This is because layered draperies, velvet curtains or heavy draped curtains using various fabrics are only for the windows. This means that in order to get it right, there is more work to be done to the rest of the house.

There are different patterns for Victorian window treatments.  Given that some homeowners still prefer to have this in their interior, it is no wonder that this is still featured in magazines and books. In fact, you can find literature that feature over 80 patterns and surely, there is something there you will like.

In essence, the Victorian style of decorating involves a combination of antique accessories and modern technology so your home still looks appealing. Because of its versatility, it doesn’t really matter if the home you are staying in is old or has just been built because accessories are all you need to style it up in the Victorian era.

Apart from treating the window, one major component of this style of decorating includes the wall coverings and accessories. You must focus primarily on a scheme using dark hues or reds and then compliment these with objects that have vintage appeal.

A simpler way of doing this is by using wall paper that fall within the antique class and then border set along the walls for a different idea that can be done using paint with stenciling. Those that have to work on a fixed budget can use neutral colors on the walls and allow accents to fill the room.

As for the flooring, you have to look for Victorian design area rugs. The oriental ones are a great buy aside from genuine rugs that may be available if these are on sale.

Some examples of accessories include vintage pictures, paintings that can be hung on the wall and perhaps a clock for the mantle. You can also use antiques, period curios and vases with flowers inside to make anyone who stops by feel at home.

You should also get matching lightings and fixtures. You can buy old fashioned lights for the ceiling and lamps that have silk fringe shades that you can place all around the house by getting this from the antique store.  Just don’t overdo it so you avoid making the place look primal or country.

Lastly, don’t forget the furniture. Fortunately, to create the Victorian effect, you don’t have to buy an old sofa because back then, they were very uncomfortable. You will just have to buy old end tables and knick knack cabinets because you will never find the same craftsmanship in this day in age compared to those produced during the Victorian era.

People who want to increase the resale value of their homes or simply like to show it off have to work not only on the outside but the inside as well.  By doing some research and reading books, you will no doubt find the right Victorian window treatment for your home that matches with the flooring, the furniture, the lighting, the walls and the accessories.

The trick is to pay attention to the details and make sure everything matches. Remember, this can’t be done with Victorian window treatments alone since this is just one piece of the puzzle.
