Sheer Window Treatment

Sheer window treatments have always been a favorite among homemakers and stylish interior designs. The main reason is that it is able to provide privacy without compromising light and structure. Sheer window treatments appear very lightweight and captivating at the same time. Here are some tips and tricks on how to properly design your windows.

Different Sheer Choices

Sheer window curtains are great when used alone since it creates a very warm and relaxing effect allowing a lot of light in through your windows. If you want to add more detail, you can use sheer curtain panels together with panel curtains or pinch pleated drapes. This will look more classic and sophisticated but still allows a lot of light which balances everything.

Plain white sheer fabric is one of the most commonly used items although you also have other choices like woven patterns and other plain colors. The colors and patterns you choose should always be consistent with your main room theme. Light and pastel colors are recommended for smaller rooms while others can experiment with bold and darker hues if they have larger rooms and taller windows.

Sheer curtains can compliment heavy drapes as well. There are various new fabrics, designs and patterns of sheer available such as cotton, linen, silk, wool and lace. Some even come with beads, embroidery and metallic threading. When combined with draperies, sheer will help balance the heavy aura. This type of style is usually preferred in very large dining room areas and living rooms with very tall windows. Without draperies, sheers will create a gossamer style with a fusion of modern and contemporary design.

Sheer Applications

The two essential qualities of sheer window treatments are its ability to control light and privacy. Other window treatment types can be applied together with sheers to create that effect. Sheers can be layered or mixed with other printed or plain sheers for a fresh appearance. With drawn curtains, sheers effectively allow as much light as possible at the same time giving privacy to the people inside.

A rolling blind is a good combination to get maximum light and privacy. Semi-sheer panels together with valances control light very well so people viewing from outside the window cannot clearly see inside. The curtains will have to be closed at night for extra privacy. Shadows are the only visible images from the outside at this point. Opaque and semi-opaque window treatments are very useful on hard windows with lined curtains.

Sheer blinds are also available which may come in opaque or semi-opaque designs. The idea is to use sheers in order to control light during different times of the day. Blinds take advantage of the light-diffusing properties of sheer which maximizes beauty, elegance and performance. They also appear more natural and lightweight compared to other materials.
