Are you looking for the most unusual window treatments in town? If you are also like the other persons who are looking for this kind of treatments then take down the following considerations: (1) adjoining new accessories; (2) providing up to date flooring; (3) repainting; (4) buying innovative furniture; and (5) altering the window treatments.

All of the above mentioned steps are easier except for the last, so let me give you tips in giving a new look for treating your windows.

First, choose between soft and hard systems. Hard systems give more privacy. Shades and blinds are used for hard systems. This system can also be used to cut the sun rays and to guard furnishing. On the other hand, the soft system includes the design for artistic purpose only. This kind of system augments texture and color to the room. Decide what you want to use. You can use both or use the two systems independently.

Second, is to check the allotted budget. Make a plan. This plan will make sure that you will not be wasting any money. In your plan, include your objectives. Make sure that your objectives correspond to the way you give value to your hard earned money.

Here is a sample break down in window treatments: For the hard treatment an approximate value of 100 to 500 dollars is accepted. The materials for the blinds and the shades differ so does the price. Regular cord lift or fancy can also be utilized.

For the soft treatments an approximate amount of 250 to 1500 dollars will be enough. Valance and panel can be used in this kind of system.

For the elaborate soft system, an approximate amount of 1500 dollars will be recommended. This can be used if you are seeking for more elaborate styles and if you are seeking for more special treatments.

Another to consider is the measurement of the windows to be installed. All measurements must be correct. You will be wasting money, time, and effort if you will not give importance to the measurements of the materials that you are going to use. If you want to be very confident in doing this step, you may consult the internet for more tips. You can also hire other persons to do so.

The next thing to consider is the options that you have. There are many alternatives and ideas around. There are ideas in the internet, books, and from other persons around you. Do not buy right away. You can always compare prices and qualities. You can also consider discounts.

Remember that these treatments are not only applicable to the windows of your bedroom, living room, or bath room. These tips are also applicable to the windows around your house.

Just use your creative mind and you will surely be in the right path.

Being informed of these tips in unusual window treatments, you can sure go near your window, start sketching your plan, begin investing and installing your new windows.

If you’re trying to attain that Oriental feel in your window treatments, it is important that you know the feelings that have to be projected. There are a few guidelines to remember to successfully convey the tranquil and mystic effect of the East. You don’t even have to travel to the opposite side of the world to get the ambiance you’ve always wanted. Here’s how.

What’s in the Orient?

Oriental styles try to create a sense of tranquility and peace by using a certain materials, patterns, symbols and colors. Most colors you need to use in your window treatments are the ones that can be found in nature like green, dark blue, gray and gold. These tones are also usually symbolic depicting elements like water, the earth, the sun and many others so feel free to create your own story or recreate a sentimental theme. Most of the styles you are aiming for usually come from countries like China, Japan, Thailand or Malaysia.

Some of the items you can use in your window treatments may be authentic or not. You will save more by looking for similar-looking pieces in furniture and home décor stores. You may also order online or directly from sources in Asia at relatively higher prices. It is also accepted to combine Western elements with hints of Oriental influence if you’re trying to save more. Some commonly used pieces for windows would be bamboo, paper and Oriental cloths. These things are used for light control, protection against external elements and aesthetic purposes.

Even if you’re using a variety of materials and items, it is important to stick to a main color scheme, preferably one that coincides with the rest of the room. You can use different techniques to achieve the right color combination such as staining, polishing or sanding. Some materials and treatments are more versatile in controlling light thus giving you wider contrast options. Glass and shiny metals help reflect more light to draw more attention to the details.

The Treatments

Examples of common Japanese-influenced window treatments would be Bamboo or Tatami blinds or paper sliding screens. Bamboo blinds have a rolling design that come in either sticks or slats. Sticks or slats provide different degrees of light control. Tatami blinds are also more versatile than bamboo in controlling light although both almost appear identical but can be stained into the color you want. Japanese paper sliding screens provide a very dramatic effect. These are usually framed with bamboo or wood in a loosely spaced crisscross pattern. Paper is very thin and not very reliable during sunnier days but gives a dramatic effect at night.

Chinese-influenced window treatments invest more in fabrics and curtains. Red, green, gold, black and white are favorite colors since traditional users of old believe that these tones draw in good luck and spirits. There are many patterns available although you may also use simpler designs with plain reds bordered by gold or white.

Some designs also include characters that are believed to convey good fortune and added blessings to the home. Chinese letters are called Conji and appear very artistic and dramatic. If you intend to tie curtains, try to look for gold-colored cords or silk. Large square or rectangular windows are more common but you can also invest in arches depending on the main Oriental theme.

Rustic designs are very common in countryside American homes. You can practically see this style adorning lakeside vacation homes, ranches, or even forested or mountainside rest houses.

Rustic-styled homes blend perfectly well with the natural surroundings, and were originally created when there were limited materials to be had. Before, rustic designs are purely handmade, where furniture and fixtures are made from natural materials that can be found in the natural environment. The first rustic dwelling was the hunting lodges built by deer hunters as a dwelling during the hunting season.

Most of the interior are composed of homemade, homespun, and recycled materials; which might look slapdash at first, yet gives off a comfortable, warm, and welcoming atmosphere. Such materials used for rustic designs are wood, deer antlers, bark, willow wreaths, and so on. You can exercise natural creativity at this point.

What is Rustic Window Treatment?

The word treatment always denotes of curing some problems, but rustic window treatment is quite different. Treatment for rustic windows simply refers to the methods used to design, style, and maintain your countryside rustic windows that will match the overall beauty of both indoors and outdoors of your rustic home.

This includes decorations, window coverings, and so on. The treatment will give your rustic window the “natural” feel that you originally designed it for.

Tips in Giving Your Window The Natural Look

In order to give your rustic window the make-over, here are some tips that should get you started with your little project.

1. Rustic Window Designs

Rustic window designs can be purchased from any rustic furniture shops. If you wish to modify your windows to something that sparks a natural look, then you can browse around different shops for the designs and styles that will fit both the interior and exterior facing of your home.

If you have no patience in running around town looking for a rustic furniture seller, then you can check the Internet. You can browse through tons of pictures and check out reviews and advices from experts on how to pick a rustic window for different dwelling types.

2. Window Coverings

Covering your window with curtains, drapes, blinds, shutters, or shades can give you the privacy you need whilst inside your rustic dwelling. It also serves as a way to control the natural lighting during sunny mornings or scorching afternoons. Also, the design and style of your window covers will accentuate the beauty of your rustic dwelling in more ways than one.

The color and style of your window covering should be of natural design. For starters, you can use wooded blinds or bamboo shades to give it a natural and inexpensive feel. These two can provide adequate lighting to make the interior more comfortable as well. If you are sticking with curtains and drapes, then go for bright colors to give your home a light and comfortable atmosphere.

3. Decorations

To spice up the interior design of your rustic window, you can incorporate natural decors to give it a country feel. You can try willows or twigs as a valance on top of a panel curtain or blinds, or place a deer antler in the middle to hide the curtain fastenings with it. You can also place garlands or bunches of dried flowers beside your windows or at the top corners too.

These are just some tips to get you started with treating your rustic window. You can exercise creativity and make use of the natural materials to satisfy your urge for it. Just remember to chose only those that will blend perfectly with both your window and the surrounding nature as well.

Swag window treatments have been in existence for many years and still its popularity has continued to spread in today’s radical and modern designs. Swags convey a very majestic and dramatic aura which is why it is frequently used in rooms with rather formal themes. Making swags is fairly easy with the right approach. Here are some simple rules to follow.

Basic Swag-Making

Choose the right length of fabric that perfectly fits your window. Take a tape measure then hold it at one corner then mark. Swing the end of the tape measure around the opposite corner making a quarter circle. Next, cut the fabric along the mark to be used further as a pattern to cut out lining. After you cut out the lining, position the right sides of fabric and lining side by side then sew around all three sides.

Remember that a small opening should remain on one of the straight sides of the fabric. The opening will then be used as an access point to turn the fabric right side out. Make a rod pocket by turning point below five inches then stitching everything down. Measure the sides around 1 to 2 inches then sew both sides. Take a rod then slide it through the created sleeve to make a swag. There are new versions of swagholders allowing you to make poufs and other radical additions to your window swag treatment. These will create a more polished and finished appearance to your window.

More Swag Tips

To make a swag, you need to plot out your plan first to avoid wasting fabric. You also won’t run into a lot of problems once you start treatment since all your measurements should be accurate. Take a pencil and paper and draw your design with the corresponding measurements. Graph paper is better since you can clearly plot and match the proportions. Consider the drapery length, heading, valance and tiebacks. The valance is the horizontal line across the top of the window while the heading is the top part of the window. Tiebacks hold the draperies along the side of the window.

Use the Rule of Fifths or Sixths in dividing the window. When making a swag, dividing the full length of the swag treatment by five or six to know the final length. If you are treatment almost reaches the ceiling, divide by five. If you are treating just above the window, divide by six. The cascade ideally is at least two times the total length of the swag drop. The long point should end into the lower third portion of the window.

The Rule of Threes can also be applied to add a more aesthetic appearance in your swag window treatment. You may apply two-thirds of window panels to a third of the window. This goes the same way when applying prints, tones or colors. You may use three colors wherein one serves as the main tone, the second color compliments the main tone and the third provides a nice contrast.

You should also consider the rods for your swag window treatment. Determine whether you want rods on the wall or the window frame itself. The latter may cause gaps at the edges which can be unsightly. Rods at least 4 inches away from each side of the window is recommended for a smoother look. Check the wall surface as well before placing rods to avoid cracks. You may have to use the right kind of mounting screws to keep it clean and intact.

Bow windows can look very elegant and majestic especially if you know how to provide the right treatment. The approach is fairly simple and you don’t even have to spend much trying to find the perfect look that matches your style and savvy. Here are some of the options available as well as a few guidelines to follow during installation.

Designing the Bow

There are two main ways to treat your bow windows. The easier route would be to choose individual window shade treatments. Perhaps four or more windowpanes comprise the curve of your bow window so getting single treatments will provide each one with its own shade drop-down style. Make sure you choose the ones that match the area where you’re planning to place them. The colors should also be complimentary and consistent to avoid clutter.

Bow windows are generally considered to be an attraction in the home. It is equally important that the treatment you choose will bring out its beauty and shape more. You may choose window shades that provide more privacy when you need it as well as window shades that try to draw more attention to the bow window. Individual café curtains have less privacy but focus more on providing a nice view and aesthetic appearance.

The window treatment should look good from the inside and outside. A useful solution would be to find a cloth roller shade having designs or colors that compliment when viewed from the outside and another different pattern or tone when viewed from inside the house. You may need to have one made just for your window to perfectly suit the environment.

Your second option would be to get a custom-made cloth roller shade that specifically follows the curve of your bow windows through a track. There are a number of manufacturers that customize shades and blinds. You also get to spend a lot of effort and time in this manner since you can freely choose the design and color you need. Double track roller shades are also good if you feel that the environment supports it with enough light.

The design of the room or area where you’re planning to install these is also important since you will be dealing with color combinations. It is important to maintain the integrity and consistent aura of the room or you risk having your window looking separated from everything else. You can choose colors that provide a good contrast or lean towards the main tone. Roller shades are also more convenient and practical compared to blinds because of its slick and easy mechanism.

Other Stylish Options

Shutters can provide a more fixed look compared to draperies. You may choose floor length or cut-to-fit ones depending on the size of your bow windows. Fabric shades are also a nice alternative to draperies providing you with adequate light and privacy. Draperies come in handy if the window has overwhelming seats.

Valances are very effective in boosting light entering the room. Wall-and-rod bow window treatments are useful in putting emphasis on the window by hiding the wall. If you have an excellent view outside, choose a color that will help frame the shape. Very large bow windows can be detailed with curtain panels and swags to create a very elegant and captivating appearance. This kind of treatment will definitely make it a highlight.

Sheer window treatments have always been a favorite among homemakers and stylish interior designs. The main reason is that it is able to provide privacy without compromising light and structure. Sheer window treatments appear very lightweight and captivating at the same time. Here are some tips and tricks on how to properly design your windows.

Different Sheer Choices

Sheer window curtains are great when used alone since it creates a very warm and relaxing effect allowing a lot of light in through your windows. If you want to add more detail, you can use sheer curtain panels together with panel curtains or pinch pleated drapes. This will look more classic and sophisticated but still allows a lot of light which balances everything.

Plain white sheer fabric is one of the most commonly used items although you also have other choices like woven patterns and other plain colors. The colors and patterns you choose should always be consistent with your main room theme. Light and pastel colors are recommended for smaller rooms while others can experiment with bold and darker hues if they have larger rooms and taller windows.

Sheer panels, sheer valances, sheer Priscilla window curtains and sheer scarf curtain are other great alternative treatments. Sheer panel curtains are ideal for French windows or single-door windows. Sheer valances are available in simple plain colors as well as woven patterns. Valances along with scarf window treatments look very nice in country themed living rooms and bedrooms. It provides a warming effect due to the nice input of light from the outside. More detailed treatments would involve sheer fabric ruffled Priscilla. These are available in various mixed tones and colors.

Sheer curtains can compliment heavy drapes as well. There are various new fabrics, designs and patterns of sheer available such as cotton, linen, silk, wool and lace. Some even come with beads, embroidery and metallic threading. When combined with draperies, sheer will help balance the heavy aura. This type of style is usually preferred in very large dining room areas and living rooms with very tall windows. Without draperies, sheers will create a gossamer style with a fusion of modern and contemporary design.

Sheer Applications

The two essential qualities of sheer window treatments are its ability to control light and privacy. Other window treatment types can be applied together with sheers to create that effect. Sheers can be layered or mixed with other printed or plain sheers for a fresh appearance. With drawn curtains, sheers effectively allow as much light as possible at the same time giving privacy to the people inside.

A rolling blind is a good combination to get maximum light and privacy. Semi-sheer panels together with valances control light very well so people viewing from outside the window cannot clearly see inside. The curtains will have to be closed at night for extra privacy. Shadows are the only visible images from the outside at this point. Opaque and semi-opaque window treatments are very useful on hard windows with lined curtains.

Sheer blinds are also available which may come in opaque or semi-opaque designs. The idea is to use sheers in order to control light during different times of the day. Blinds take advantage of the light-diffusing properties of sheer which maximizes beauty, elegance and performance. They also appear more natural and lightweight compared to other materials.

Wood conveys a very warm and relaxing atmosphere that provides you the homey feeling you’ve always wanted. There are a variety of approaches for wood window treatment. You may be able to pull the whole thing off yourself over the weekend. Here are a few ways on how you can effectively design any window in the house.

Your Options on Wood Blinds

Wood blinds can come from a variety of nice sources such as cedar, oak, cherry, walnut, bamboo and basswood. Prices will vary depending on the type of wood, quality of the material as well as the size the perfectly matches your window. These real woods also come in various shades and colors so you may have to pick tones that compliment the area where you’re planning to treat. Oak, cherry and other dark wood will look great in living rooms and kitchens where lots of natural light come in through the windows. Dark wood also looks great in bedroom windows providing a very romantic and tranquil aura.

Mini-blinds work well in children’s rooms while Roman blinds is a great alternative in terms of design in the living room or dining room windows. Bamboo blinds convey an oriental feel. It is also a great alternative to dark wood since bamboo comes in shades of olive green, light brown, burnt sienna and beige. You can find several wooden blinds in your local hardware store but the best ones come from certified manufacturers who customize everything. Getting wooden blinds and shutters from skilled makers will ensure that the wood is of premium quality. All color finishes, polish or paintjob and mechanism can be specifically customized to suit your needs and style.

When it comes to wooden shades, you may have to choose between real wood and faux wood. Real wood are the ones mentioned above and appears more natural-looking. The ladders in real wood are also more durable plus color can be re-stained or painted. Generally, real wood has lighter weight than faux so fewer ladders will be needed increasing the window’s view. Faux wood is less expensive and typically lasts longer than real wood. It is easier to clean and stain-resistant. Heat, moisture and humidity are potential risk factors for real wood so people usually prefer using faux wood in areas with lots of these like the bathroom and kitchen windows.

Being Certified

You can validate the quality of your wooden shades, rollers and shutters by asking for certification from the National Wood Window and Door Association or NWWDA. The group provides hallmark certification to approved manufacturers after checking that their products meet the set standards. Your window’s performance and durability will be tested so you can be sure that you get what you pay for. You can also ask for certification from the National Fenestration Rating Council or NFRC to assess the thermal performance standards of the wood.

When buying wooden window treatments, talk to the dealer and ask about the source, type and quality of wood. You may want to visit more than one manufacturer to compare the difference in price. Some actually charge more depending on the wood color or if you want to have the wood cut or customized to fit your window. Some manufacturers include a water repellent but quality may be compromised as well with the addition.

One thing you should know about Asian window treatment is that you will be using bamboo for your decorating. This is because the wood itself is very versatile enabling it to be used in almost any room in the house.

An example of this is the bamboo shade. From that name itself, it is quite obvious that they use bamboo sticks but some manufacturers use other materials to create the same effect such as faux wood, jutes, rattan, reed and woven woods. The best part about it is that it is cheap and requires little maintenance. The only thing you have to do is use a duster to make it good as new.

This is available in a range of styles and often with pull cords so you can move it up or down.

The downside to this kind of Asian window treatment is that it is not durable. But given its affordability, it won’t hurt the pocket that much to replace.

Another thing you should know is that this is not ideal to have in the children’s play room because there is a good chance it will get damaged or destroyed.

Aside from the pull cords, another variation is the roll up shades. This is also easy to operate and adds an interesting look to the room.

You can even buy the bamboo roman shades. This model lifts in folds and creates an open look with a visual style. When opened, the shades look like pleats. This has better lining compared to the other two as this does not show when this is opened.

As you can see, there are different methods for lifting the shades. So when you are shopping for the right Asian window treatment for your home, it is best to pay attention to the quality of the hanging framework and the pull mechanisms as this will determine the life of your shades. Better yet, check if the manufacturer has a warranty on the said product so this can be exchanged or you may get a refund.

There is a challenge in Asian window treatments especially when bamboo is used. Given that it is made from natural materials, the color of each one varies. You just have to pay attention to the detail whenever you are buying it so there is not that much discrepancy from one to the other.

When you have brought your Asian window treatment home, be sure to read the instructions especially if you are going to install this yourself.

Aside from shades, you can also use bamboo stained glass as your Asian window treatment. These come in different sizes so you can put one over the other or just get a big one. You can make a statement by getting a large beautiful skylight with the bamboo design built right in.

The nice thing about bamboo glass windows like the shades is that these are also easy to install. There is the hanging window design that you can do yourself or a more complicated one that can be done by a professional.

As you can see, Asian window treatment is much easy and affordable. Try it out and see if this works for your home. After all, you can say already a lot about your home with just a simple look.

Victorian window treatment is just one of the things that make up the Victorian style of decorating. This is because layered draperies, velvet curtains or heavy draped curtains using various fabrics are only for the windows. This means that in order to get it right, there is more work to be done to the rest of the house.

There are different patterns for Victorian window treatments. Given that some homeowners still prefer to have this in their interior, it is no wonder that this is still featured in magazines and books. In fact, you can find literature that feature over 80 patterns and surely, there is something there you will like.

In essence, the Victorian style of decorating involves a combination of antique accessories and modern technology so your home still looks appealing. Because of its versatility, it doesn’t really matter if the home you are staying in is old or has just been built because accessories are all you need to style it up in the Victorian era.

Apart from treating the window, one major component of this style of decorating includes the wall coverings and accessories. You must focus primarily on a scheme using dark hues or reds and then compliment these with objects that have vintage appeal.

A simpler way of doing this is by using wall paper that fall within the antique class and then border set along the walls for a different idea that can be done using paint with stenciling. Those that have to work on a fixed budget can use neutral colors on the walls and allow accents to fill the room.

As for the flooring, you have to look for Victorian design area rugs. The oriental ones are a great buy aside from genuine rugs that may be available if these are on sale.

Some examples of accessories include vintage pictures, paintings that can be hung on the wall and perhaps a clock for the mantle. You can also use antiques, period curios and vases with flowers inside to make anyone who stops by feel at home.

You should also get matching lightings and fixtures. You can buy old fashioned lights for the ceiling and lamps that have silk fringe shades that you can place all around the house by getting this from the antique store. Just don’t overdo it so you avoid making the place look primal or country.

Lastly, don’t forget the furniture. Fortunately, to create the Victorian effect, you don’t have to buy an old sofa because back then, they were very uncomfortable. You will just have to buy old end tables and knick knack cabinets because you will never find the same craftsmanship in this day in age compared to those produced during the Victorian era.

People who want to increase the resale value of their homes or simply like to show it off have to work not only on the outside but the inside as well. By doing some research and reading books, you will no doubt find the right Victorian window treatment for your home that matches with the flooring, the furniture, the lighting, the walls and the accessories.

The trick is to pay attention to the details and make sure everything matches. Remember, this can’t be done with Victorian window treatments alone since this is just one piece of the puzzle.

With the continuous change in the home building and designing industry, it is sometimes hard to keep up with the newer trends. But if we are to look back and really examine the significant changes in home designing more specifically the window treatment aspect, it is not so surprising to note that the transformation has gone from extravagant pleats towards simplistic and nature-friendly choices.

With the emergence of Japanese-plus-modern designs in contemporary homes, many homeowners are now opting for simplicity, clean-cut lines and refined elegance. A lot of people are transforming their houses into something that would make it more calming and relaxing, some even reconstruct their homes. And among the main points of focus are the windows.

Bamboo window treatments have become a lot more popular in this side of the world nowadays. However, it is already the staple bamboo treatment for most homes in the pacific. Most people, several decades ago, would not even imagine dressing their windows with bamboo blinds and other bamboo window treatments. But due to the growing consciousness on environmental concerns, most people shift towards using bamboo window treatments and sometimes even hemp. Top these with the growing consensus of electing a cozy atmosphere in the house that might even, at first, give the impression of a vacation home.

If you are a bit skeptic on using bamboo window treatments, you could try considering the cool look of the following bamboo window treatments:

Matchsticks blind – Among the most popular choices when it comes to bamboo window treatment is the matchsticks blind. As the name suggest, this type of blind are crafted from thin, long sticks of bamboo that are connected in an overlapping fashion. These blinds give the advantage of letting in more light due to the small gaps in between each stick.

Roman shades – The bamboo version of the Roman shades provide a slick, simplistic approach to window treatment. Much like the roman shades, the bamboo counterpart gathers in several folds when raised and retracts when lowered.

Roll-up blinds- This boasts of attractive window treatment which is mainly characterized by very thin, sometimes straw-like thinness, to increase the ease of use.

Woven wood blinds – If you opt for a roll–up shade, this type of bamboo wood treatment would be a good choice. It is commonly used for patios; however a growing demand for its use is concentrated on window treatments.

Straight bamboo shades – This type incorporates different bamboo species and even grass and wood.

If you are not up to using traditional Japanese bamboo window blinds, then you could try searching for less traditional designs and constructions. These would give you the same benefits while being able to match your modern house with one of the most economical choice for window treatment.

While it is true that bamboo window treatments offer a lot than what meets the eyes, their uses are limited into several types. Also, these do not work well in all sorts of house arrangements, designs, furniture and house construction. Nonetheless, they work well for both exterior and interior use. If you want some exotic flavor around a room, you could try the inexpensive alternative offered by the bamboo window treatments. But don’t be fooled though, many manufacturers and makers of bamboo window treatments have already devised ways to create sophisticated-looking choices.
